You use a heat transfer paper which is printed using any inkjet printer, running ordinary inks. The transfer is then heat pressed onto the garment.
Inkjet transfer is for fabric items, mainly T shirts.
This is the same process as "iron on" inkjet transfer paper which you can buy from the high street, the only difference being that they last longer when pressed with a heat press, and the quality of the transfer papers are usually a lot better from trade suppliers than from high street retailers - and also better value for money.
Inkjet transfer printing is a valid start up process, and is fine for printing items which aren't meant to be worn over & over again, however transfers don't last as long as other processes, don't look quite as professional, and therefore are not the preferred method for businesses wanting to create long lasting highly professional looking printed T shirts.
Usually inket transfer papers are meant for white & light fabrics, a paper is available for dark fabric, this paper has a white background, so as with dye sub dark, and of the background image you don't want to appear as white, you would have to cut out, so ideally you would need a cutter.
If you're prionting novelty T shirts, Stag & Hen party T shirts, or T shirts for one off events, or for cheap resale at car boot sales for instance, then Inkjet transfer is a good low cost method to start with.
Remember, once you have your hear press, it's not a huge amount of investment to get involved in other processes, such as dye sublimation or cut & stick transfer, so it's not a bad idea to begin with inkjet transfer & upgrade to other processes as your business gains momentum.
